Proxmox VE 7.4 Delivers Enhanced Usability and Features for Effective Server Virtualization Management
As the demand for efficient server virtualization management continues to rise, Proxmox has answered with the release of its latest update, Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) 7.4. Built on the foundation of Debian 11.6 (“Bullseye”) and powered by a long-term supported Linux kernel 5.15, Proxmox VE 7.4 takes usability to the next level by adding more management tasks to its intuitive web interface. With updates to QEMU 7.2, LXC 5.0.2, and ZFS 2.1.9, along with support for Ceph Quincy 17.2.5 and Ceph Pacific 16.2.11, Proxmox VE 7.4 provides a comprehensive and feature-rich platform for efficient server virtualization.
New Features: From Kernel 6.2 Support to a Dark Theme
With Proxmox VE 7.4, users have the option to install the Linux kernel 6.2, which supports the latest hardware features. This can be easily done in the shell by selecting the pve-kernel-6.2 meta package and will be activated after a reboot. Additionally, the web interface now offers a sleek and visually appealing “Proxmox Dark” theme variant for those who prefer a darker interface. Users can seamlessly switch between the light and dark themes for a customized experience.
Detailed Ceph OSD Information and Improved User Experience
Proxmox VE 7.4 also brings improvements to the web interface, displaying detailed Ceph OSD information and API, making it easier for administrators to manage their workload. Users can also download task logs as text files directly from the GUI, streamlining troubleshooting tasks. Further improving the user experience, VMs and containers can now be sorted by name or VMID, making navigation easier in larger clusters.
Enhanced High Availability and Storage Management
The HA Manager in Proxmox VE 7.4 now allows manual switching of an online node into maintenance mode without having to reboot. This release also adds support for the HA Cluster Resource Scheduler (CRS) stack, allowing for automatic rebalancing of VMs and containers on startup. Storage management has also been enhanced with the introduction of the content-dirs option, which gives administrators greater control over specific subdirectories for content types such as ISOs, container templates, backups, and guest disks. Moreover, sorting data by encryption and verification status is now possible when selecting the storage view for a Proxmox Backup Server storage.
Improved Access Control and Other Notable Enhancements
Access control has been significantly improved in Proxmox VE 7.4, with ACL computation performance enhanced by up to a factor of 450 for setups with numerous entries, large user bases, or many access control rules. This will greatly benefit administrators working in complex environments. Other notable enhancements include automatic redirection of HTTP requests to HTTPS, updated container templates for amd64, an option to disable notifications for new package updates, and improved translations for multiple languages.
